I have received my Gamepad today and I can't connect it to my Windows 7 x64 PC, tried 2 different USB cables, installed the Android SDK Manager with the Google Drivers, tried the Archos ADB drivers, the Gamepad just shows up as ARCHOS in the Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark, Windows can't find a driver for it. I have enabled Debugging on the Pad, tried it as a Media Device and a Camera, nothing works, I can't use a Mass Storage Device APK as I can't root it as Windows can't use it. My S3 connects fine over USB. Any help would be appreciated. Hi, you to get all Archos Smartphone USB drivers with an easy installation guide. Archos USB driver is an important part of all Archos Smartphones which enable you to easily connect your Archos android device with the PC or laptop.

My S3 connects fine over USB. Any help would be appreciated. Don't think I'm going to be able to help much because it sounds like you've already installed waaaaaaaaaaaaay to many totally things that were never needed to start with. And, I have not worked with Win 7 x64 enough to ever even begin to explain how to properly uninstall all those drivers and software that you have. I will say this in general though. Almost ever device these days (other than thumb drives or USB hard drives), and just about anything Archos has made in the last couple of years uses MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).

As such, they simply can not connect as an MSC (Media Storage Class) or Mass Storage type of USB connection. Unless you are an Android software developer, or someone that really knows what they are doing there would be absolutely no reason to ever have done any of the following: Set the tablet to Developer or Debugging mode. Install Google's SDK software.

Install any kind of ADB software or ADB driver. Change the Tablet USB mode to 'camera'. Now, assuming that somehow you can uninstall all that junk from the computer AND change all the tablet settings back to what they originally were. Then, disconnect things, turn off BOTH the tablet and the computer, and start them up fresh. Then, just connect the tablet to the computer and wait for it to pop up something about installing an MTP driver (if it needs to).

You should then be able to find it under My Computer as a 'Media' device. But, since I don't have one (and would not even consider buying one until maybe July or August of 2013 assuming Archos actually gets any firmware to work correctly on the GamePad). Well, sorry, I can't really be off much help with it otherwise. Is it impossible to set the gamepad to mass storage?

If so, how does archos think one should copy the firmware update to the root of the internal memory via the usb cable? I'm running XP sp3 and I can only see the gamepad as a camera or choose to copy media files with mediaplayer (and that doesn't do anything at all). Guess I can copy the file over wi-fi. But did connect via USB because archos update instructions told me to. As I've mentioned elsewhere. NONE of the newer Android devices (from just about any company) can connect as an MSC (Mass Storage Class) kind of connection. Other than USB thumb drives or hard drives now anymore.

The specs for the Archos GamePad specifically state: 'USB 2.0: Mobile Transfer Protocol (MTP)', and just about everything these days now uses MTP (which is really Microsoft's stupid Media Transport Protocol, but that's just semantics). I do not have a GamePad to verify things, but in general. If you have a Windows computer just plug it in and it should automatically take care of any needed driver, and then show up under My Computer as either a 'Media' or 'Camera' device. (if you use a Linux or Apple MAC computer then you may need to find and install an MTP driver). You should then be able to double click on that icon and be able to see and copy files to/from the tablet. What I find REALLY AMAZING is that there is absolutely nothing in the on-line manual for the Archos GamePad that even mentions anything about how to connect to a computer to transfer files.

But, then again, the whole idea of just plug it in and it should work seems to only confuse more people these days than the way things work with an MSC connection before. Anyway, to the best of my knowledge there are no new Android devices that can connect as a Mass Storage Device now anymore. They all use MTP now (and I hate that, would rather have MSC simply because it actually works far better, faster, and reliably than MTP). So, we all must now bow down to the almighty God's of electronics that believe what THEY WANT US TO USE is better than what we ourselves really would rather use. Or, change religions and go with Apples equally in-compatible way of doing things.

Just can't win. Is it impossible to set the gamepad to mass storage? If so, how does archos think one should copy the firmware update to the root of the internal memory via the usb cable?

Seems like google(android) is starting to pick up the bad things with iOS.no more UMS/MSC and google slowly trying to get rid of apps2sd and SD-cards all together.

For me who only have quite old computers it's inconvenient since my laptop with XP only can transfer media files via windows media player over MTP. And my other computer with OpenBSD(without X), well. Let's say that UMS/MSC would be a lot easier. And yes, it is really weird that archos don't say anything about file transfer in the manual, especially since it is required for firmware updates.

In general I don't mind when stuff is user friendly, but it really annoys me when they change things to be more user friendly and sort of forces you to use inconvenient ways to do stuff. It's great that my mother can use a smart phone and a computer, but hey. I want to be able to use stuff too.
